Welcome

My work explores the processes of interpreting past and contemporary structures and events with just the tiniest fragments and to find inspiration through the juxtaposition of these forms. I like to explore imagined histories and to capture these within frames much in the same way as a traditional museum exhibit. With my frames however I am not so much encasing as providing a section of something more extensive. Much of what I do is to imply. I am fascinated by the skin and the facade – that of a building, an industrial or organic form and the breaking of those protective surfaces through violence or corrosion.
I am interested in the qualities of the found object such as fragments of forgotten industry and domestic environments. It is here that I seek to arrest the decay of these objects so that they can find new contexts and take a different role in new compositions. Thus they establish a new narrative and sense of place though one that is often influenced by the location they originate from.
While in much of my work the catalysts have been industrial and natural objects that I have integrated with more contrived elements to create their new environment, over the past two years I have started to use familiar but evocative items that have through repetition and inclusion in new frameworks taken on a new meaning and context
Underpinning this is a suppressed sense of the gothic and melodramatic. I set out to create real or implied physical or emotional tensions and to subvert the familiar and the domestic to create unsettling and melancholic compositions.
