Can You Hear It? is this year’s open exhibition from Bow Arts Trust. Franko B has selected new work from 21 artists to become, what he describes as, “an orchestra of different voices”. The selected works use absence, silence and miniaturisation to tell their stories. The exhibition features a broad range of artistic practice, including performance, painting, video, photography and sculpture by artists based in East London.Franko B, the curator, is Artist-in-Residence at P1 Studios—a new purpose-built studio complex managed by Bow Arts Trust. He is an acclaimed visual artist in his own right and has exhibited work internationally. For this exhibition, Franko selected work that appears vague at first, but which is, in fact, surprisingly engaging. His selection process was swift and intuitive, and he specifically sought works that disappeared into the background – the pieces the artist wouldn’t normally show.
All of the artists featured in Can You Hear It? are affiliated with Bow Arts Trust and work in the heart of London’s Artist Quarter. The exhibition’s opening weekend coincides with the Trust’s annual Open Studios event. There will be activities taking place at the Nunnery all weekend along with the opportunity to visit the artists’ studios, many of which are next door in the Bow Road Studios. Over the weekend, over 120 artists in the area will be opening their doors to give the world an insight into their work and methods.
Can You Hear It? features new work by Ron Athey, Kim Baker, Mick Bateman, G Roland Biermann, Jack Brown, Gordon Cheung, Robert Crosse, Hector de Gregorio, Nicolas Deshayes, Lee Edwards, Kris Emmerson, Dave Farnham, Michele Fletcher, Joe Graham, Steph Hurst, Alastair Levy, Robert Luzar, Kyejung Park, India Ritchie, Benjamin Walker and Alice Woodhouse.
